Teachers impact the lives of millions of children every day. During Teacher Appreciation Week I want to take the opportunity to pause and show some love and appreciation to all the teachers, past and present, that I know in my life.
As the son of a teacher I know how hard teaching is and how many hours are given by our teachers both on and off the books. I also know that it takes special people to do this line of work. It takes people with smarts as big as their hearts.
It is said that the world seldom notices who teachers are; but civilization depends on what they do and what they say.
So, in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week I am going to spotlight a photo and a story on a person who I personally know who is or was a teacher. I’d like to celebrate their work and have you join me by liking, sharing, and saying with me thanks!
Thank you teachers! You guys really make a difference!!! #NationalTeacherAppreciationWeek 👩🏫
📣First spotlight is my mom… Nancy~~~~~~~
1991 was an exciting year for me. I began my career as a Special Education teacher in a NYC elementary school In upper Manhattan.
The first year was difficult finding “my way” through the trials and tribulations of teaching children who needed extra help but as time went on, I knew I had a heart for my children. Each one was important to me, and although I’m sure I made mistakes, it brought a joy to my life previously inexperienced.
To be able to reach a child and make a connection was heady stuff. Of course there were times I failed at that. I remember those little faces and wished I could bring them what was missing. But I tried…and I loved it.
Now retired 14 years, I still hear from some of them. Many have gone on to lead rich, full lives. That brings me comfort to know that I had a small part in forming their young lives. They, on the other hand, gave so much more to me.
